ALMA HUNT'S AMAZING GAs/CiAs SCHOLARSHIP - WMUV has established the Alma Hunt’s Amazing GAs/CiAs Scholarship to honor the legacy of Miss Alma Hunt who was passionate about children’s mission education and opportunities for service. This scholarship celebrates the mission focus and cooperative efforts of Girls in Action (GA) and Children in Action (CiA) groups in Virginia, and will provide a scholarship for the group selected each year to engage in a mission service opportunity that impacts the world for Christ.
BASS CAMPER SCHOLARSHIPS -
Established by Robert Bass in honor of his wife, June Bass, Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) provides financial need scholarships to assist Girls or Children In Action and Acteens or Youth on Mission through the summer camping program at CrossRoads Camp and Conference Center (CrossRoads). Scholarship aid shall be given to qualifying Girls in Action (GAs), Acteens, Children in Action (CIA) or Youth on Mission (YOM) who are active in either of these organizations and who attend a church affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). Applicants are eligible for one scholarship per camping year. Scholarship aid may be given to qualifying applicants from a state or country which is actively involved in a Partnership Missions initiative of the BGAV, and may also be given to a current camp staff team to go to another state or country to assist that state or country with the summer camping program for one week.
CAMP STAFF SCHOLARSHIPS -
WMUV provides college and graduate school scholarships to staffers who serve during summer camp at CrossRoads.
CROSSROADS CONNECTION SCHOLARSHIP -
Partial scholarships enable children or youth to go to a week of summer camp at CrossRoads who are not otherwise involved in a local church and who meet financial eligibility. This is also designed to foster a relationship between a child, along with the child's family, and a local church, giving preference to a BGAV church. The scholarship will provide at least one half (1/2) of the camp fee for the child and the church will mentor/nurture the child prior to and following the camping experience.
FLETCHER MAE HOWELL SCHOLARSHIP - The Fletcher Mae Howell Grant is named in honor of the 1933 first field missionary of WMUV interracial work, and provides financial assistance to African-American women in a graduate-level Christian education program.
ELSIE GILLIAM NURSING SCHOLARSHIP -
Elsie Gilliam was a missionary to China and trustee of the WMU Training School. This scholarship, named in her honor, enables registered nurses to perform volunteer mission work in another country.
LISK SCHOLARSHIP -
Named in memory of Kristen and Katie Lisk, a scholarship is given to the Outstanding GA or Outstanding CIA of the year to attend a week of of summer camp at CrossRoads.
PARTNERSHIP COVENANT SCHOLARSHIP - The Partnership Covenant Scholarship provides special assistance to WMUV leaders whose gifts and expertise may be needed to facilitate partnership goals and enhance mission experiences.
JEAN N. WOODWARD – MARGARET B. WAYLAND SCHOLARSHIP -
The Jean Nelson Woodward - Margaret B. Wayland Scholarship (JNW/MBW) was established in honor of two former WMUV state presidents. Scholarship aid shall be give to qualifying potential women leaders in the state of Virginia to attend leadership training events.
SEMINARY SCHOLARSHIP -
Scholarships are available to women who are members of churches served by the BGAV who attend any of the seminaries supported through the BGAV.
VIOLET MANN BONHAM PARISH NURSE SCHOLARSHIP -
Violet Mann Bonham was a Christian Registered Nurse who wanted to provide scholarships to qualified persons to further their education in the Christian ministry. Scholarships shall go to Virginia Baptist registered nurses to further their continuing education in the Parish Nurse program.
