SEWING OPPORTUNITY

Does your WOM group enjoy sewing? Sew a batch of jumpers for Aids orphans. These are lightweight and pack easily. Contact Glocal Missions and Evangelism to connect with a team willing to deliver. Suggested pattern McCalls # M5351 or any similar simple dress pattern.

SEEDS OF RENEWED HOPE

Seeds of Hope are not being collected in 2008 as there has been no request for them from Liberia. Thank you for all you did to participate in this project in the past. If seeds are requested from Liberia in the future we will most likely collect for them again. Check back next year for an update on this.

Help Women and Girls in Ghana!

The Baptist Vocational Training Centre at Frankadua in the Eastern Region of Ghana trains mostly ex-Trokosi slaves who have been released from the shrines. The Trokosi system is a form of slavery in which people, mostly girls and women, are sent to shrines to atone for the crimes of their relatives. At the shrines, these slaves undergo all types of abuse. Although this practice is against the law, there are at least 2,000 people enslaved in 19 shrines in the region.

The Ghana Baptist Convention is trying to resettle some of the freed Trokosi slaves by giving them vocational skills at the training center. There are currently 42 students enrolled in courses such as sewing, hairdressing, weaving, batik, and carpentry. Some of the students are weaving WorldCrafts's new Kente cloths using wooden looms.

As you buy these Kente cloths to wear or to decorate your home, you are helping these students begin a new life. Kente Cloth! This versatile cloth can be used as a scarf, stole, or wrap. The cost for "The World for Christ Hallelujah!" hand-woven scarf is has been reduced to $1.00 each and may be ordered by calling WMU of Virginia at 804-915-5000 ext. 8267.
